This month marks 20 years since Tim Miley opened Miley Legal in Clarksburg. Over those two decades, the firm has represented thousands of injured West Virginians and recovered more than $100 million for clients through settlements and verdicts.
The firm opened its doors on June 1, 2006, built on a straightforward idea: injured people deserve an advocate who understands how insurance companies operate and is willing to fight for them.
From the insurance side to the injured
That idea came out of Tim’s own experience. Early in his career he represented large corporations and insurance companies, and he grew frustrated watching the tactics used to delay, deny, and minimize legitimate claims. In 2001 he decided to switch sides and represent injured individuals and families exclusively. Five years later, he opened his own firm to do it his way.
“When I started this firm, I wanted to create the kind of law firm I believed injured people deserved,” said Tim. “A firm that would communicate, tell clients the truth, treat them with respect, and fight for them when they needed it most. Twenty years later, that mission remains exactly the same.”
Two decades of cases across West Virginia
Since 2006, the firm has handled cases throughout the state involving car accidents, motorcycle accidents, truck accidents, wrongful death, workplace injuries, and other serious injury claims. The firm has represented thousands of individuals and families, and Tim has personally taken part in more than 40 jury trials.
Along the way, the team has built a reputation for staying responsive, keeping clients informed, and standing with people through what are often the hardest stretches of their lives.
A career in the courtroom and the Legislature
Tim has also spent years in public office. He was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2004, later chaired the House Judiciary Committee, and was elected Speaker of the House in 2014. Working in both the courtroom and the Legislature gave him an unusually close view of how West Virginia law is written and how it affects the people who live under it.
Marking the milestone
Throughout June, the firm is marking the anniversary by sharing stories, milestones, and reflections from its first 20 years, and recognizing the clients, team members, referral partners, and communities that have been part of the journey. The campaign includes a new 20th-anniversary commercial along with community-focused storytelling about the people and relationships that shaped the firm.
“Over the last 20 years, we’ve recovered more than $100 million for our clients, and I’m proud of that,” Tim said. “But what matters most is the trust people place in us when they’re facing one of the hardest challenges of their lives. We’re grateful for that trust, and we’re excited about what comes next.”
