2019 Winner: Sara Pross
Sara Pross is a freshman, political science major at Clemson University. She hails from Mooresville, North Carolina where she is an active member of her community. Giving back has been the norm, ingrained in Sara’s life for as long as she can remember. Encouraged by her father to always strive to make the world a better place, Sara volunteers over 500 hours per year to help her community. Her community service includes volunteering with the LeVine Children’s Hospital; Statesville Domestic Abuse Shelter; Leukemkia Society; Red Cross; Elevation Church and multiple domestic and international missions’ trips. When she is not volunteering her time in the community, Sara enjoys theater, hiking, zip-lining and participating in competitive cheer sports. At her college campus, Sara is active in Fellowship for Christian Athletes, New Spring Church, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, and Clemson Children’s Miracle Network. In honor of her late father who passed away on August 16, 2018, Sara has also recently registered as a bone marrow donor with Be-A-Match in hopes that she might be able to provide life-saving procedures for leukemia patients. Sara plans to obtain her law degree and medical training to enable her to continue to give back to those in need.
When Sara found out she had won the Miley Legal Group’s 2019 Pay it Forward scholarship, she had this to say: “I cannot even begin to express my gratitude and appreciation to the Miley Legal Group for their generous scholarship. This Pay it Forward Scholarship holds a very special place in my heart. My father was a toxic tort litigator for nearly twenty years, fighting for the rights of those who had contracted blood cancers as a result of unlawful exposure to benzene on the job. Last year, my father himself was diagnosed with leukemia and thus began the toughest battle of his life. Even then, as he suffered through months of chemotherapy and exploratory treatments, the trajectory of his life continued to be to helping others. Ultimately, he gave his life in the participation of clinical trials in hopes of finding a cure for others, like his clients. I feel my father would be overjoyed to know that there are firms like the Miley Legal Group who fight zealously to give back to the community and help those in need. It is my great honor to accept this scholarship in pursuit of my career endeavors. Thank you for believing in me and your for helping me pursue my educational goals. “
