Born (in Columbus, Ohio) on 8/19/1956 to Thomas P. and Raffaella “Folly” Basile.  Attended Catholic grade schools (St. James (North View) and St. Mary’s) and graduated from NDHS in 1974.

Attended University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1978 with B.A., in theology. My theology education, combined with my community service involvement tutoring inner city youth in South Bend, Indiana influenced my decision to work with inner city churches in Houston, Texas to establish a school for undocumented Mexican children along with 3 fellow Notre Dame graduates. I served as co-administrator and teacher of 100 children. The school, Guadalupe Aztlan, served the undocumented Mexican community for 7 years before the children were finally permitted to attend Houston public schools and was no longer needed.

I then helped establish a Campus Ministry program in a co-ed high school in Houston – St. Pius X Catholic High School – counseling high school students and organizing retreats, worship services and experiential learning activities.

Thereafter, I taught religion class for four years in San Antonio, Texas at Central Catholic Marianist High School.

I then sought more education and in 1986 returned to WV to get a Masters in Environmental Public Policy Analysis at WVU (1989) and began work on a Ph.D. in political science before deciding a law degree was more practical for a 33-year old guy with 2 growing daughters and a wife to care for (and hoping to have another child or two eventually). See below for why I went into law.

Tom has been residing in Charleston, WV, since graduating law school in 1992.

College history – undergrad, law degree, where and when?

University of Notre Dame – B.A., Theology 1978

WVU – M.A., Political Science (Policy Analysis) 1989

WVU – J.D., 1992

After studying Theology, Political Science and Law, Tom started practicing law with the hope that each of those academic areas would not only provide me with a better understanding of three of the most important areas of humanity’s experience (spiritual, political and legal), but would help me to learn how best to make a positive contribution in the world around me, both personally and in whatever job or profession I chose. The practice of law provides me with a toolkit of expertise and a platform where that vision can play out in reality and I see it in the lives of every client I help.

“I wanted to hire an attorney, I was in a bad accident and didn’t know what to do, didn’t know where to go, where to start at, or what to even think about. I called the Miley Legal Group and they pointed in the right direction to get my situation resolved.”
