Lois Jenkins of Louis A. Johnson Veterans Medical Center our November 2016 Celebrating Volunteers Winner

Lois Jenkins of

the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Medical Center

With Veteran’s Day around the corner, highlighting someone who not only honors our Veterans everyday, but also spends hour upon hour working directly with them to ensure they receive the utmost care is an honor for both WBOY and The Miley Legal Group.  With the completion of many military operations recently and the aging of those that have served in the past, the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center has become ever so important to those service members along with their families.  Lois Jenkins serves as one of over 140,000 volunteers that provide more than 11 million hours of volunteer work.  More specifically, Lois, provides one on one contact with Veterans to ensure that they receive the care and information necessary to navigate through the medical system.  Although, the Veterans Administration works hard to ensure each patient receives the quickest and best care, it is up to Lois, to ensure that the Veteran is comfortable and knows where to go throughout the process.

When not working to welcome and help assist the Veterans at the home, Lois also volunteers at the Volunteer In Police Service program within the City of Bridgeport’s Police Department.  She also works to assist individuals file taxes through the AARP Free Tax Preparation Program.  When those do not keep her busy, she also spends time volunteering at the Church of Christ.

The volunteer program at Veterans Medical Centers across the country are seen as an important asset.  With our service members putting everything on the line for their country, it is important that they receive the care they deserve when returning home and throughout their life.  Lois Jenkins understands this important mission and treats it with the sense of importance that it deserves.  She recommends that everyone, young and old, should spend some time volunteering at the VA and experience first hand what these brave men and women endure.

“As West Virginia’s Veteran population ages, the services that Lois and her fellow volunteers provide will become even more important,” said Tim Miley, owner of The Miley Legal Group.  “Her hard work allows for the comfort and care of each service member throughout their medical stay.  I appreciate the honor she bestows on them and I too, honor them for their dedication to our country.”

We look forward to recognizing a number of worthy individuals while giving their organizations a part of the spotlight.  The program will continue recognizing volunteers throughout the coming year.  In order to nominate a volunteer to receive this award, please visit WBOY’s nomination page, the form can be found on the bottom of the page.
