Charlotte Kirby of Charlotte’s Annual Toy Drive is our January 2017 Celebrating Volunteers Winner
Miley Legal Group
The Christmas season is the time of sharing. For one young lady, giving and sharing during Holidays has been taken one step further. Charlotte Kirby not only enjoys the holidays with her friends and families, she wants to make sure everyone in our community does as well. That is why Charlotte and her mother spend the weeks before Christmas gathering donated toys from a number of designated drop off locations to then bring to the Soup Opera in Fairmont or the Clarksburg Mission for distribution to families in need. Through Charlotte’s Annual Toy Drive, Kirby has delivered thousands of toys to kids that may not have had a special Christmas otherwise. That is why, Charlotte Kirby was selected as this month’s The Miley Legal Group/WBOY-TV’s Celebrating Volunteer Winner.
Ever since she was four years old, Charlotte has gathered and distributed hundreds and hundreds of gifts donated by gracious members of our community. The system has been set up so that families in need can “shop” for toys, allowing them to be involved in the gift giving process by selecting the toys that their children received. As with each passing year, the toy drive grows in participation on both the giving and the receiving end. Charlotte does not want any kid to miss out. As her and her mother begin to gather the dolls, trucks, Legos, Nerf Guns, Barbies and even Hobby Horses, the excitement builds. Charlotte wants children in our communities to enjoy Christmas, to experience the sense of wonderment and happiness that she gets on Christmas morning, to experience the joys of Christmas.
You might have seen Charlotte before, not only does she run her annual toy drive, she also participates in a big way in other areas of our community. Her giving spirit has been recognized by the Governor and the Clarksburg City Mission among others. She plays football for the Bridgeport Pee Wee White team and participates in competitive cheerleading. Her involvement leaves a lasting impression with everyone she meets. Although appearing shy and reserved to new comers, everyone gravitates to her warm, yet determined spirit. When most kids her age are focused on video games and iPads, Charlotte is working hard to make a difference in the lives of children across all walks of life. Her inspiration is her church, she even has her eye on becoming a pastor one day…during her downtime from the NFL.
“This brings joy to my heart. Charlotte is a wonderful kid, and her work has affected thousands of lives,” Gretchen Ross of WBOY stated. “Not only does her toy drive bring joy to the lives of hundreds of children, she also touches upon the lives of those that give. Her work is an inspiration to everyone in her community and I wish her great success in the future.”
“Charlotte’s hard work and dedication is what one hopes to see in our youth. She has started at an early age dedicating her life to the betterment of others,” said Tim Miley, owner of The Miley Legal Group. “She provides a ray of hope for not only current, but future West Virginians. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her as Governor, or even President one day.”

The Celebrating Volunteers awardees receive public recognition for not only themselves, but their organization. They also receive a $500 contribution to the organization they represent in their name. Gretchen Ross of WBOY TV and Tim Miley of The Miley Legal Group work together to select the awardees from the many nominations received from the public. The volunteer selected will have demonstrated their commitment to an organization through volunteerism and support.
“I am an avid supporter of volunteerism in our communities.” Miley stated. “The Celebrating Volunteers program is a way that we can recognize the hard work and dedication of individuals across our region.”
We look forward to recognizing a number of worthy individuals while giving their organizations a part of the spotlight. The program will continue recognizing volunteers throughout the coming year.
