Miley Legal Group
Annette Santilli of The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network has become a large part of Annette Santilli’s life. Pancreatic cancer hit close to home, when her brother was affected by this debilitating disease. From that point forward, Annette has worked tirelessly throughout the state and our country to ensure that adequate attention and funding is given to fighting this awful cancer. Through the West Virginia branch of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, she has raised thousands of dollars and volunteered hundreds of hours to raise awareness. Her determination and dedication is why The Miley Legal Group and WBOY has selected her to receive the Celebrating Volunteers award for the month of October.
Annette has planned numerous events in all across the state including at the West Virginia Power Park in Charleston and most recently with the Purple Lights Night in her hometown of Philippi. She is constantly found at health fairs and giving presentations in and around her community. She most recently received recognition for her work from the National Pancreatic Cancer Action Network as a community coordinator. Her work continues online and through social media with the creation of networks for survivors, patients and family members of those suffering from pancreatic cancer.
“I volunteer for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in memory of my little brother (shown to the left). I pray that something I am able to do will help others affected by this terrible disease. I want to set an example for my daughter that it’s important to give back to be passionate about a cause and volunteer for your community, and to make a difference. My brother’s fighting spirit will continue to live on through our efforts and those of volunteers all across the country.”
“I am proud to honor Annette Santilli for her work with the Pancreatic Cancer Network. All forms of cancer are devastating to patients and families.” Tim Miley, owner of The Miley Legal Group, stated. “Annette brings not only awareness to pancreatic cancer, but to the affected families as well.”
Along side her position as Administrator of the Barbour County Health Department, Annette has volunteered throughout her lifetime. She has served her state and community as President of Philippi Main Street, State Lead Ambassador of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, Chair of the Barbour County Local Emergency Planning Committee and so many more. She has also been recognized multiple times for her work, including the 2009 Governor’s Service Award and the 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Barbour County Relay for Life.
The Celebrating Volunteers was a brain child of Gretchen Ross of WBOY TV and Tim Miley of The Miley Legal Group. Each month, a volunteer will be chosen from multiple nominees submitted by the general public. The volunteer selected will have demonstrated their commitment to an organization through volunteerism and support.
Each awardee will receive recognition through a spotlight on WBOY with Ms. Ross and $500 will be contributed to the organization in their name. The awardee will also be recognized along side the organization in a number of ways, including but not limited to an awards luncheon and additional promotion online and within The Miley Legal Group Newsletter.
“I am an avid supporter of volunteerism in our communities.” Miley stated. “The Celebrating Volunteers program is a way that we can recognize the hard work and dedication of individuals across our region.”
We look forward to recognizing a number of worthy individuals while giving their organizations a part of the spotlight. The program will continue recognizing volunteers throughout the coming year.
